USAT Liberty Shipwreck

The USAT Liberty is a United States cargo ship that was torpedoes by a Japanese submarine in 1942. It was towed to shore and beached, but earthquakes caused by a volcano eruption caused the vessel to slip into the water. It is now covered with 60 years of coral growth: an excellent example of how the sea claims everything to be its own. Unlike other notable shipwrecks throughout Indonesia, the USAT Liberty rests in shallow water, where both snorkelers and divers can enjoy it.
