Whale Sharks

Whale Sharks are the biggest fish in the the world.  The term “whale” refers to their size.  Real whales are mammals; they do not have gills; rather, they breath air and are warm-blooded.  Whale sharks are fish: they have gills, so they draw oxygen from water and are cold-blooded.  Whale sharks are no danger to humans.  They eat plankton (microscopic plants) and tiny fish and shrimp.  Adult males grow to approximately 8 to 9 meters (26 to 29 feet) in length and females grow to approximately 15 meters (49 feet) in length.
